Brought in to replace the famous falconry show, thee Bal des Oiseaux fantômes is an extraordinary show that calls on the participation of many tame birds. Staged on the ruins of the first Puy du Fou, this show of a around thirty minutes is scheduled 2 to 4 times every day.
The Bal des Oiseaux tells the story of Aliénor who wakes in a ruined castle after a spell has been cast on her. A magnificent aerial ballet performed by different species of birds tells the dreams and memories of this young enchanted princess.
An aerial show
Wanting to be in the spirit of the park, the Bal des Oiseaux fantômes is a mix of history, legends and fun that is sure to please all visitors to the Vendée. Suitable for all ages, this artistic performance also highlights the importance of falconry during the Middle Ages.
The memories of the ghost birds are recounted through an aerial show that will not leave the audience indifferent. Birds of prey, falcons, eagles and owls perform choreography just above the audience’s heads. Expect to experience an unforgettable moment! You will also be captivated by the skill of the master falconers who direct the movement and gestures of these exceptional birds.

An extraordinary performance
During the show, more than 10 birds of around fifty different species take part in the ball of the ghosts. The captivating story ends in a grand finale with 150 birds taking flight at the same time.
Besides the artistic aspect, the show stands out for the coordination of the birds’ movements under the watchful and a professional among the falconers of Puy du Fou. Dressed in period costumes, they conduct the ballet like true maestros so the audience can watch and admire every participating bird, both in flight and at rest. All of this to the rhythm of magnificent musical compositions, including those of Thomas J Bergersen.
Puy du Fou, a major centre for birds of prey
The reputation of the Bal des oiseaux fantômes extends beyond Vendée. Many people come to the area simply to experience this beautiful, unique and spectacular adventure. This enthusiasm is due to the fact that Puy du Fou is the largest birds-of-prey breeding centre on the Old Continent.
A true reference in the field of falconry, the park records more than 80 births a year, and has done so since the site was created in 989 by Jean-Louis Liégeois. At present, the Académie de Fauconnerie du Puy du Fou is home to more than 00 tame birds which are raised to grow used to human contact from the moment they hatch.
Thanks to the daily work carried out by the falconry masters, the park can afford to offer this one-of-a-kind show under conditions of a high level of safety.
